Day One: Embracing denial at least until after morning coffee

So, this is the first day of a long road, how many miles? Who knows, how many days? Who cares! Bottom line, I am a 30 something (let's face it I am growing closer to 40 than to 30, but hey I'll stick to the 30's is where life begins cliché as long as I can... at least after my first coffee).
What prompt me to start this blog? Hmmm, I refuse (or rather settle) to admit that I am the only woman in her mid-thirties (there it is I'd said it... once coffee down, two more to go), who finds herself amidst limbo, that is, in that place in life where you are married, but have no children, or brilliantly educated (graduate studies an all) but don't seem to find the place or thing to do that make you passionate enough to jump out of bed every morning, or even worse you have the brilliant career, earn the bucks, quids, euros, pesos or yens to allow you to live a single free life, doing whatever you want whenever you want, still... there is something missing, and no, I blatantly refuse to endorse any kind of spiritual flirting (or philandering for some), as that is not what I am referring to.
It's is more about the expectations that are embossed in one's brain as we grow up. Call it, society, family or traditions, women all over the world are expected to be "perfectly rounded creatures". Funny enough, we somehow deserve the pressure, we deserve it all.
Sometimes it is hard to believe we had it so easy: to cook, clean, breed children and look pretty, that was all that was asked from us "back then", but it wasn't enough. We wanted to be educated (truthfully, we needed it), we wanted to work (how else are we suppose to indulge in frivolities such as shoes and bags), but above all we wanted free determination, to do with our life whatever we wanted.
Fast forward to 2010, we kind of can... although after my second morning coffee, I have to admit, that we are however expected to still be all of the above: wife/girlfriend, mother/girlfriend (let's face it, most men are really boys), and career-woman, so... as long as "modern" women are part of a social environment where men only cook when paid, women are expected to starve themselves to still look pretty, whilst either mating with their jobs, or abandoning their "ideal" careers in favor of a family, I somehow find it hard to say, that yes we have more free determination over our lives, what it seems is that we now have more options, more choices, but still the same responsibilities as we had before.
So... my imaginary readers, here is the Q of the day: How free are we really, if everything that we do, is what was expected of us?
